Fire Wise Fuel Safety Course

Nathan Donnelly will be teaching a class about fire safety on our private property in the woods on October 21st at 4:00pm on Mount Dallas. This is a two part series. In the first class he will demonstrate how to clear low hanging limbs and brush and teach fire wise habits to attendees. This includes detailing what, why, and how certain materials can be dealt with for optimum fire safety and landscape health. How and what to cut, pile, and later dispose of the most problematic fuels most properties have building up on them. Participants can practice cutting limbs on site if they wish. The second class, hosted at a future date once the rains come, he will teach how to safely dispose of the downed limbs and the benefits of controlled fire in the forest. Fire preparedness is especially important on the heavily forested Mount Dallas and the better educated our community is, the more resilient we become!

This class is open to all who are interested in participating. Participants are encouraged to bring pruning saws or large loppers capable of cutting small tree limbs. Handheld loppers can be used for smaller branches. Consider bringing gardening gloves. Please dress appropriately for the weather, wear shoes with good traction and bring a bottle of water with you to keep hydrated. Parking is limited, carpooling is encouraged. If you wish, there is plenty of usnea growing on the property and those who wish to may gather as much as they like from the low hanging branches to make medicine with, bring your own bag or basket.

To compensate Nathan for his knowledge and time a $50 donation is encouraged, however attendees can donate whatever amount feels worthy to them. No donation is required to attend.
